The Forum Music Teachers Association is a professional community of music educators dedicated to the advancement of music education across the greater Houston area. We connect teachers, support students, and promote the highest standards of musical instruction.
FMTA is a local affiliate of the Texas Music Teachers Association and the Music Teachers National Association, giving our members access to a statewide and national network of music educators, professional development resources, and student activity programs.
Our members teach a wide range of instruments and musical disciplines and are united by a shared commitment to excellence in music education and the transformative power of music in students’ lives.
The Forum Music Teachers Association is organized and operates exclusively for educational and professional purposes. Our activities are directed to the improvement of professional conditions for music teachers and to the promotion of the art of music and the advancement of musical knowledge throughout our community.
FMTA operates as a professional organization under Section 501(c)(6) of the Internal Revenue Code, focused on the improvement of professional conditions for music teachers and the promotion of music education.
Our educational foundation operates under Section 501(c)(3) for charitable and educational purposes, dedicated to the promotion of the art of music and the advancement of musical knowledge through scholarships and educational initiatives.
FMTA is led by a dedicated board of member educators who volunteer their time to advance the mission of the organization.
FMTA members are required to hold active membership in both of the following organizations, connecting them to a statewide and national network of music educators.
TMTA is the statewide professional organization for music teachers in Texas, providing resources, events, advocacy, and student activities programs for educators across the state. FMTA is a proud local affiliate of TMTA.
MTNA is the national professional organization dedicated to advancing the value of music study and making music education available to all. FMTA membership requires active membership in MTNA, connecting our teachers to a nationwide community.
